Something that I am very close to, I was very happy when AVON also took up the cause of Domestic Violence with their #SpeakOutAgainstDomesticViolence campaign. When my children were small, I was married to a man who abused me. It took me 5 years to break free, but left mental scars which took over a decade to begin to put behind me. I was divorced in 1978, but - in all honesty - while I was married, I didn't think I'd ever get out alive.

Back in those days, there was a lot more stigma in being abused, the attitude was that you must have done something to "deserve it". There were no support agencies, and even the police looked the other way. I am so glad to see how things have changed, and how many resources are available to families in need, and places for abused spouses and their children to go for shelter and support.
