New goal ... aiming high

My simplifying, and decluttering of our life has been going on for a few weeks now, and recently evolved to a  2 year plan for hubby and I to move to a lakeside area not too far from where we are now (as he still has a few more years before retirement) but where he could spend some of his "down-time" now, fishing and just relaxing in a really peaceful setting.

He, being a decade from retirement, it's my goal to try to achieve this courtesy of my AVON. It's not a lofty goal, it IS workable, just that I will need the help of friends and supporters in order to accomplish it. We are looking at getting some land on Lake Greenwood in SC, and making our home there. I just want my hubby to have some awesome relaxation when he isn't working, and doing things for me that I can no longer do. 

It's funny. People get married every day and repeat those vows "in sickness and in health" but nobody really considers what "sickness" entails. In our marriage, I lost my independence, my "go out and do", and my hubby lost his physical partner. My self-sufficiency dreams came to a halt when I couldn't do my share of the work any longer. Hubby's 50+ hour work weeks left little time for the chores that we both used to share, and the joy we had had from that dream, faded.

Added to which, he ended up doing most of the household chores that had been a part of my wifely duties. His life became one long chore, in many ways. I started using my AVON money to change things, and now have a friend come and clean weekly, and send my hubby off for a massage every couple of weeks. Just my way of showing my hubby how much I appreciate him. It's not easy for him being my wheelchair pusher and "everything physical" person.

When we go to stock my AVON brochures, I label them all but he's the one who carries the box into the store and restocks the shelves. When I have deliveries, he carries the box onto my bed, for me to sort and bag, and then when we deliver to my customers, he is the one who gets out of the car and carries their bag to their door. He does so much more than many men would do for their wives.

That's why I want him to have a completely relaxing environment, and be able to just escape and fish, in his off-time. He wants me to also enjoy it. I will. I am blessed with being content in my life. I'm not someone with a need for material things. I will be happy wherever I go, now. I spend most of my day in my bed nowadays, it's basically where I "live" but I also work my business from there too, and seem to be staying reasonably successful. It's harder to maintain when my being out and about, and talking to people face-to-face is curtailed, the way it is, but when I am out (like yesterday's mammogram appointment) I talk AVON and hand out brochures.

For me, failure is not an option. When one thing no longer works for me, I have to think smarter and find other ways to bring about the results I need.

Mammograms save lives

This afternoon I have one of those "hate going to" appointments that we women cringe over but push ourselves to go to anyway. I jokingly refer to it as my "booby pancake" day, but most people know them as mammograms. They help save lives by giving an early diagnosis of something which may, or may not be, breast cancer.

AVON's Breast Cancer Crusade helps support breast cancer awareness and research through the AVON Foundation, a portion of the purchase price of every "pink" product that we sell, goes towards the BCC. 

After my mammogram, I have some AVON deliveries to do and will be restocking my brochures in Ingles, in Mauldin.

Highlight of my afternoon though will be Little Pigs BBQ for dinner, with my hubby.

Well, here in sunny SC, it has been just that. Sunny. And hot! Summer may be a couple of weeks away but the weather didn't get the memo, we were 95 degrees yesterday. As for me, I am so very thankful for AC!

What a lovely day I am having today. It's hot out, but I'm thanking God that I love NOW and have the window ac unit in my bedroom. You think of those poor crinolined Southern belles of previous centuries and it's easy to see why they swooned and fainted when, for 6 months or so out of the year, it is so hot and/or muggy here. They were definitely made "of sterner stuff than I" because I have issues with the heat just letting my dogs in and out of the front door. It's like opening the oven door when baking, a sudden blast of intense heat.

AVON money this campaign, $313.28. Yay, loving it, that's a decent paycheck. Thank you to all my team members, as it's their hard work that gave me this Leadership Bonus money. This is nothing to do with my commission on sales, this is my bonus on THEIR sales, and I am very grateful for it!

Also, now that I am working my WATKINS  a little more, I have a $41.80 commission check for my sales with them. I am very thankful of it as well.

I've worked some more on my genealogy today, still perusing over info that has me confused right now, but doubtless it will clear up in time. I am so blessed that Ancestry sent me that great deal last week for a years access, and that I had AVON money sitting there that I could say, "yep, that's what I'm going to spend some of this on"! I've been working on my family history for 20 years now and I LOVE this resource. I also sent off my DNA to Ancestry, so am excited about what that will tell me about all the bits that make up the mongrel that is me.

Looks like some clouds coming in, that Tropical Storm is sitting off the SC coast now so we may get some rain from it. Prayers for all those who are getting the brunt of it. Until you truly experience Mother Nature at her most volatile, you do not realise what a tiny part of our universe you are. It's amazing. We think we are so superior, yet a flood, tornado, or earthquake can soon show us that we are no match for any of them, not even close!

It's Skin So Soft Bug Guard Time!

As Summer begins to take a hold (or what FEELS like Summer, this side of June 21st), families begin to spend more time outdoors, picnic time, camping, days by the lake or hiking in woods and mountains, hunters hunt, fishermen fish and trappers trap ... and everybody becomes the buffer table for numerous flying insects like gnats, and mosquitoes, and for clingers like ticks. Ticks and mosquitoes being more than just an annoyance but possible disease carriers as well.

Protecting your family becomes a part of the "going outside" ritual.

The CDC advocates using insect repellent as in 2012, they reported an increase in the amount of recorded cases of West Nile Virus than in the previous 9 years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)recommends choosing insect repellents that have been registered with The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). What does his mean? Why do they suggest this?

Well, when a product is registered with the EPA, basically what that means is that, when used according to the directions on the label, the product in question isn't expected to cause any harm to people or the environment.

Picaridin and IR3535 (used by AVON, DEET and Lemon Eucalyptus Oil are all approved by the EPA as registered ingredients. Added to which, they have been certified as effective in preventing insect bites.
